Split with married BOBBY KENNEDY pushed fragile sex symbol MARILYN MONROE over the edge.

After having inherited Marilyn Monroe as a mistress from his brother President John Kennedy, attorney general Bobby Kennedy, a staunch Catholic and father of 12, had just ended their affair when the star took off to mob and Rat Pack hangout Cal-Neva for one last wild party.

"Marilyn was distraught and heartbroken. She felt the Kennedys had handed her around like a piece of meat,' Monroe's publicist Rupert Allan said.Long time pals confided the peroxide beauty's grip on reality - damaged by mental illness, booze and prescription drugs - was more than unstable - it was volatile.

In a rage, MM told an ex-lover Robert Seltzer, "If I don't hear from Bobby Kennedy soon I'm going to call a press conference and blow the lid off this whole damn thing - I'm going to tell about my relationships with both Kennedy brothers!"

At Cal-Neva resort she as drunk and out-of-control as a very worried former lover Frank Sinatra - a longtime pal of the Kennedys - acted fast.

The Lake Tahoe den of iniquity was said to have been bought by frequent client Joseph Kennedy, Patriarch of the Camelot clan, through an alleged front.

Sinatra and pals reportedly built a complex labyrinth of tunnels beneath the carnal house where Giancana could visit Cal-Neva secretly after being banned by the Nevada gaming authorities.

The tunnels were also used by President Kennedy and Monroe to sneak to and from their respective rooms unseen for sex romps.

After Marilyn was dumped by both John AND Robert Kennedy, the sex symbol was visibly depressed, boozy and popping pills when she was snapped by a photog with crime lord Giancana.

"Marilyn (was) on all fours," the photographer revealed. "She looked sick. Astride her, either riding her like a horse or trying to help her up - I couldn't make out which - was Sam Giancana."

Partying for three straight nights at Cal-Neva, Marilyn returned home to Hollywood and was found dead a few days later.
