Episode 7 Overview & Thoughts

2:00 pm – 2:14 pm

Scene opens at FBI headquarters.

Sean tells Larry they found the truck that the Mutobo’s were in on satellite (guess so, it was sure easy to spot that big yellow truck!)

Janice informs Larry she found a “code fragment” that could enable her to find where in the infrastructure Dubaku may be targeting next.

This Sean guy is really getting on my nerves. I sure hope he’s the FBI mole so they can get rid of him. I’d like to see Jack “interrogate” this guy.

Ethan is trying to call Agent Gedge who’s now dead thanks to Henry Taylor. No answer of course. Mr. Taylor is still unconscious from the fall.

Ethan now gets a call from Larry Moss updating him Mutobo’s abduction. Ethan is impatient – Larry reminds him they know what’s at stake and that one agent has given her life (Walker).

Now to the RogueCTU van with Bill, Jack, Tony, Chloe and Renee. They have tracked the Mutobo’s to an office building thanks to the tracking device Chloe placed on the Prime Minister in the last episode.

Jack wants the building specs – of course Chloe has them on her computer! I think Chloe’s computer has specs to every building in the United States.

Jack tells Renee he will need her help.

Now to Dubaku and the other bad guys. He updates Nichols on where the next target is – a chemical plant in Kidron, OH. (Kidron, Ohio?) OK.

Dubaku talks to Mutobo and reminds him that he dissed him once during a state dinner – Mutobo says Dubaku only wanted him to be a puppet of his military. Dubaku calls him a traitor, Mutobo calls him a traitor back saying he was elected by the people. Dubaku says Mutobo will give Juma the names of all the “traitors”. Mutobo says he won’t – Dubaku looks at Mutobo’s wife and says he will. Well done scene, I liked it.

Jack and RogueCTU go into the location where Dubaku is. Renee goes in main entrance and runs interference saying she was there on official FBI business.

Chloe directs Renee to the stairwell where she lets in Jack, Tony & Bill.

Chloe tells Jack where the crawl space is and he and Renee go in. The Mutobo’s are locked in a separate room. Mrs. Mutobo says “Jack Bauer will be here soon.” Mrs. Mutobo instinctively knows who she can count on. Smart lady.

Same code fragment comes up on Janice’s computer – Kidron, OH. They see there is a chemical plant near Kidron. Janice calls to talk to their Plant Manager John Brunner.

The Plant Manager is having trouble resetting the safety valves on the primary storage tank. Janice tells him she believes a terrorist attack is being attempted on their facility. The plant works tries to shut down the primary tank but it’s not working.

Janice tells him they need to start evacuating the plant.

2:18 pm – 2:28 pm

Back at the White House the President is working on a speech to the nation. Ethan comes in to inform the President about the attack on the chemical plant. Ethan explains what the damage the release of the insecticide would do – they could lose half the population of the town.

Chloe tells Jack about the chemical plant attack. Yeah, no pressure Jack, only thousands of lives are at stake once again! Jack uses a night vision scope to see who is in the dark room a floor below.

Bruner is going to manually try and release some of the pressure. He has Janis look up the emergency valve release sequence. Janis realizes this will release the chemical into where Bruner is. He says he has respiratory gear on. She guides him through the procedures. The chemical is released where the plant manager is.

Nichols notices a surveillance camera from 20 minutes ago showing Jack, Tony and Bill entering the building. Dubaku yells, “How did they find us!” Dubaku orders the CIP module to be disengaged and says they will continue the attack from another location.

Sean at the FBI notices on his end that the firewall breach is closed, the firewall is secure. He doesn’t know what happened.

RougeCTU beings the assault on Dubaku’s location. Renee takes out Nichols who had a gun pointed at the Mutobo’s – cool! She’s a female Jack!

Jack finally gets to kill some bad guys! Yeah! Great shootout scene.

Tony finds the CIP device, says it has been destroyed. I wasn’t too sure if Tony was telling the truth the first time I saw the episode but in viewing it again, the brief shot of the device did look like it was broken.

Renee tells Jack the Mutobo’s are safe and she’s taking them to the van. Jack tells Tony and Bill to do a sweep to see if they can find Dubaku.

2:32 pm – 2:38 pm

Janice trying to talk to John Bruner. She tells him he needs to get out of there, but he can’t. Janice tells him she’s sending a rescue team.

Renee escorts the Mutobo’s to the van.

Dubaku grabs Michael Latham. He threatens his family to do what he wants him to do.

Jack, Tony & Bill into the room where Latham is. Jack notices wires coming from his jacket; he realizes he is wired with explosives. Dubaku blows him up but Jack gets Tony and Bill out of there before any of them get hurt. Renee says the police are coming; they need to get out of there.

Poor Michael Latham. I was hoping he would have lasted longer and he would have been used more. When I first heard about the character, I thought he was going to be an FBI employee. I think he would have been an interesting computer analyst guy – computer geek type. Oh well. RIP Michael.

Back to Sean being a jerk again. He and Larry argue and Sean thinks Larry’s upset because of his feelings for Renee. Larry says he’s upset that thousands of lives are at stake, not because of his history with Renee.

Janice informs Sean that the plant only released a trace amount of the chemical and the site has been secured. She wants Sean to track down John Bruner’s family to let him know how brave he was. That’s nice.

“Before you start sending flowers, you need to find out where that CIP device is being used.” That Sean is all heart isn’t he?

2:42 pm – 2:48 pm

Homeland Security guy is briefing the President on the chemical plant and that the CIP device has been disengaged. She wants to know why this happened.

Ethan is calling Secret Service to let them know he has not been able to reach Agent Gedge.

Ethan tells the President that her husband has been pursing his theory that their son was murdered. She wants to talk to Henry on the phone but Ethan explains he’s unreachable and the Secret Service has put out an APB.

Vossler the other Secret Service baddie hears the APB and tries to call Gedge. Henry wakes up and hears the phone. He tries to call out on it but it’s locked. Henry sees Samantha’s body and tries leave. Vossler sees him, Henry locks the door, but Vossler busts the door down. Henry says if he kills him, they’ll know its murder and trace it back to him. Vossler’s phone rings, it’s Dubaku! There’s a bit of a twist there! I wasn’t expecting that.

Dubaku says he was trying to reach Agent Gedge but Vossler informs him that he’s dead. Vossler explains the plan went wrong, and Henry killed Gedge. Dubaku tells Vossler to bring Henry to him.

2:52 pm – 3:00 pm

Meanwhile, back at the Batcave (or is that the RogueCTU cave). Bill orders Chloe to pull up the Ritter Building on satellite to see if they can tell where Dubaku went. Chloe said it could take up to 20 minutes to task the satellite.

Jack tells Bill their cover has been blown, the police are after them now and they are not equipped to look for one man in a city of millions. They need help from the Government. Bill is reluctant, but Chloe agrees they need help. Jack believes they can limit the flow of information. Renee also agrees and says they left a lot of clues in the building.

Mr. Mutobo wants to call President Taylor, says she can be trusted. Bill reluctantly agrees. Mutobo calls President Taylor to explain he and his wife have been rescued and the CIP device has been destroyed. He says he has to explain everything to her in a private meeting.

The President agrees to meet with him at the White House. She explains the situation to Ethan tells him to limit the number of people who know about the meeting to as few as possible.

Jack and Bill begin to leave, but Tony says he’s not going. Bill says if the government gets their hands on Tony they will arrest him. Tony explains again that he’s done “some pretty bad things” before he started working with Bill. Jack tells him he needs to deal with the consequences. Tony says he will but they need to get Dubaku. He says he’s working a lead on his own; a guy on Emerson’s crew who might have some intel they can use. Jack agrees but he asks for Tony’s word that when this is over he will turn himself in and they will stand behind him. Tony says he will and shakes Jack’s hand. I don’t know if I believe Tony. I wonder what he’s really up to.

Dubaku is now shown at what looks like his apartment. The girlfriend shows up at the door – huh?? She wants him to come to dinner for lasagna. How nice. Guess terrorists have lives too.

Dubaku calls Vossler he tells him to bring Henry Taylor to a Korean grocer near his building and one of his men will meet him there.

…the clock ticks to 3:00 pm

All in all another strong episode. The ending was a little strange. I still don’t get the Dubaku girlfriend angle, but maybe that will become significant later in the storyline. I loved the action sequence in Dubaku’s hideout. It will be interesting to see Jack meeting face-to-face with the President next episode. This will be the first time we’ll actually see Jack in the White House. Even though it’s ANOTHER kidnapping story, I’m enjoying the Henry Taylor part of the story. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.
