the faux-foodies of Santa Barbara County.....

Beanie Babies, Pinkberries, Hot Cookies.... Santa Barbara Turns into Mush....

but there's hope!
Don't miss Anthony Bourdain at the Arlington..a straight talking, funny, streetwise foodie who probably would cringe at the faux-foodies of Santa Barbara County, who seem more worried about the pampering they get at a fancy restaurant than the simple joy of eating something good .....this place needs a reality check..and Bourdain is the man to do it! Bourdain:
"Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn. To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living"
Real class(the girls)
vs Foodie wannabes: Nipperites and winetasters
Nipper..the phoniest foodie, talks about Hot Cookie:
"I stopped by for their grand opening on Saturday. Unfortunately they weren't handing out any samples while I was there so I bought two smaller cookies to taste. The chocolate chip was good but not remarkable. It made me think back to great cookie franchises of the past like Famous Amos, David's Cookies in New York and my personal favorite, Mrs. Field's. I'm afraid that for my taste, Hot Cookie needs some work on the chocolate chip recipe to attain legendary status. The enthusiastic staff at Hot Cookie highly recommended the butter cookie. It was less compelling than the chocolate chip. The cookies I bought were not hot cookies, in fact they were not even warm."
a Nipper troll whines:
"The first question: what does it mean to a locale when there is such a high turnover of our better restaurants? Do we fail to patronize the quality places? Is Santa Barbara somehow incapable of a longer list of highly rated, long-term restaurants? Why doesn't Santa Barbara have a single chef running a restaurant that is highly rated internationally? Nationally? How about just in the region?
Surely Santa Barbara has the money? We are one of the most expensive places to live in the nation.
Could it be that we deserve what we demand? That is, do we hail mediocrity here? Has this now spread to the epicure among us?"
WTF are you talking about, dude??
