I haven't visited my Santa Ynez Valley pals in awhile, so I wonder what's new with them..I could hop in my truck and zoom over the hill, start knocking on doors and ask questions. But this is Sunday, and all them folks is pro'bly in church paying respects to the lord, so I'll just use the internet. I used to go to church. I'd sit there, listen to some effeminate pastor drone on in Latin, then wait for some guy to beg for money by passing a long handled basket in front of the parishioners, row by row..that's how you raise funds! YOU DON'T hold a Wine and Cheese party like Steve Pappas tried to do. Steve has been spending money hand over fist trying to prove the election he lost to Doreen Farr was rigged by UCSB students. Apparently his source of cash, Nancy Crawford-Hall, has dried up, so Steve decide to throw a fundraiser in his own honor! Guess the fuck what, Steve? No one is interested, according to my twisted-sister publication the News-Press. He had to cancel the party due to lack of a quorum! Steve, we're in a recession pal, and unless you got nude girls serving the cheese like at Hooters, why would anyone show up? Next time, try a beer fest and invite a bunch of UCSB students!

and then there's this from Big Nancy, her own form of fundraising:

Dear Santa Ynez Valley Journal Readers:
As many of you are well aware, The Santa Ynez Valley Journal had petitioned to be considered a Newspaper of General Circulation. On February 11, The Santa Ynez Valley Journal was denied this request.
The paper met all the requirements but one, the bona fide subscription list. One issue was that the subscribers from the valley could potentially receive a free paper to their home whether they subscribed or not and therefore shouldn’t be included in our bona fide subscription list.
For nearly two years, The Santa Ynez Valley Journal has been mailed to the valley residents and businesses on a weekly basis free of charge. Due to the unfavorable ruling, we have decided to end our free mailings in the Santa Ynez Valley area. The April 30 issue will be the last of the free mailings. The paper will continue to be available at our street stand locations throughout the valley, and current subscribers will continue to receive their papers delivered to their home via first class mail.
Thank you for your support. I look forward to continuing to provide you with a resource to help inform and educate you on the issues that are important. NCH
what does this mean? and why would anyone be aware that she had petitioned to be a Newspaper of General Circulation? here's why: MONEY! The VJ is seeking this status so that it will be able to run legal notices which would help support it financially, and allow it to compete with the Santa Maria Times and Santa Barbara News press for pricing.
