Ventura Highway...

the road to hell is paved with gold...

First off, I would like to thank Caltrans for using Santa Claus Lane as a dump and a truck parking lot...I really enjoy parking there now with massive fleets of subcontractors speeding around the lane..Santa Claus Lane is for us to park on while we enjoy the beach..it's not a freakin' quarry!!
second, why are we trying to widen the highway? It is not going to happen in Carpinteria if I have anything to say about it..I'm trying to get a nice stretch of 101 designated scenic or historic so they don't chop our neighborhoods up so dopes can get to the casino faster..I'll stand out in the middle of the road and chain myself to a highway sign if I have to!
...now, why did they start to widen Milpas to Hot Springs and start a roundabout project at the same time..why? TOO MANY PEOPLE..that's why..too much growth down south, too many instant neighborhoods where fields of dreams used to be, too many unsold units taking up too much space..and the solution that folks have come up with is to add more lanes..
the Milpas to Hot Springs project has got me baffled..it is barely a mile long and will only move the bottleneck along a bit..they should have kept it two lanes and improved the drive, like they did in Summerland...but the price is the real kicker and that's what happens when Caltrans doesn't do preventive maintenance on the highways..there is no value in what they are doing now..instead, they spray poison on the road sides to kill weeds and put up stupid signs, like Click-It-or-Ticket..or Call 911 to Report Drunk Drivers..don't they know it is illegal to talk on a cell phone and drive?
So to all the folks who wanted wider highways...die!! The highway moves very well 99% of the time..I've watched it, I've studied it, it needs to be understood to be traveled well.. and if you need more lanes, you just don't get California...
...in the sunshine, where the days are longer, the nights are stronger than moonshine...
